4/10/17-Xerox spin-off company bringing 750 jobs to former Macy’s in Irondequoit

Irondequoit, N.Y. (WHAM) – The former Macy’s store at the former Irondequoit Mall is being filled.

Conduent, the Xerox spin-off created when the company split in two last year, will be bringing a call center to the location.

Conduent was formed last year after Xerox split its document technology and business processing industries into two separate companies. Conduent is the business process outsourcer, which helps companies with automating and simplifying business processes.

Approximately 96,000 employees fell under the Conduent banner worldwide during the transition.

“As a proud representative of the great Town of Irondequoit, I am excited to welcome Conduent and 750 local jobs to their soon-to-be new home on East Ridge Road,” said New York State Senator Rich Funke in a statement. “Conduent’s decision to grow jobs and investment in Irondequoit is a strong vote of confidence in our local economy and workforce. I thank Conduent, Flaum Management, and all partners involved for this major investment in the revitalization of the Medley Center complex.”

Irondequoit Town Supervisor Dave Seeley responded with enthusastic praise, as well.

“Today’s announcement regarding the future of the former Macy’s site in Irondequoit is a clear sign that better days are ahead for the Town of Irondequoit,” Seeley said. “Our community will be proud to play a role in the transformation and growth of a company that has meant so much to the region. I hope this to be the first of many positive announcements in the near future for the former Mall property, and throughout our business corridor.”

2/1/17-Gamblers flood into del Lago Resort & Casino

Some arrived about five hours before opening.

Others peeling off Thruway Exit 41 had to deal with a line of traffic.

When the new del Lago Resort & Casino’s doors opened about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, the crowds streamed through the front doors and quickly spread out on the 94,000-square-foot gaming floor.

“I took off work and am going to win money,” said Nate Herbert, a poker player from Clyde, Wayne County, who waited outside for several hours in near-freezing temperatures. “I hope to be here all day. I am ready to be that big winner today.”

The casino opened with 2,000 slot machines and 89 tables, including 12 poker tables and several tables of Blackjack, three card poker, Texas Hold ‘em, mini baccarat, craps, roulette and more. Minimum bids for most tables started at $5 and $10.

A minimum bid of $50 was required for a higher stakes game of blackjack. The number of guests coming through the front doors in the first hour were not immediately available.

But it was obvious that the number of people playing table games were dwarfed by the numbers sitting at slot machines. If a new casino at Tioga Downs is any indication, the slots are where del Lago may make most of its money.
